A Letter from Maryland Education Reformer Ed Amatetti:

Dear Richard:

I had a very enjoyable and productive time at your meeting and hope to make it to future events.

Regarding the Frederick Classical Charter School: the Board of Ed, meeting is Monday (tomorrow), so there is still time to show support. The following is the email I sent to those I thought might want to attend and show support (it provides all the info your group needs to attend):

To All My Friends and Compatriots,

We have worked together on many initiatives this past year – some of which have reaped a bountiful harvest, some less so. I am emailing because yet another opportunity has come up that offers us a chance to make a big difference in the important area of education. I'm asking you all to read the email and consider participating in a night of activism, followed by socializing.

It is “fairly local” (Frederick County). The approval of Frederick Classical Charter School’s (FCCS) charter school application is on the agenda at the Frederick Board of Education’s upcoming meeting on Monday, November 22. Recently, the Frederick County teachers' union president went on the offensive and urged the BOE to deny the application. He is expected to bring a crowd to the meeting to help persuade the Board to deny the application.

I’m going up to the meeting to testify on behalf of the FCCS, and would like to invite you to attend as well.

My thought is we would all meet at a central location on the way up – perhaps the bus parking lot on Quince Orchard Road right at 270 – and all drive up together in a caravan. The school’s President, Tom Neumark, has offered to reserve at a restaurant in Frederick after the meeting, so we can mix in a little social fun – they have some great restaurants in Frederick!

Please let me know if you can come out and support the school this Monday. And please spread the word to your groups/affiliations and as many other people as you can.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 191 South East Street in Frederick on Monday, November 22.

The school has come a long way, and are very close to approval. They could use our help. The school’s website is www.frederickclassicalcharterschool.org/.

Why does it seem our work is never done!

Thanks everyone.
