THE MARYLAND TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION, INC. December 4, 2006 Dear Taxpayer Advocate: Tomorrow the Republican Caucus of the Maryland Senate will choose its leader at 1:30 PM in Annapolis. The contest is between Senator Andy Harris, the current Republican whip, and Senator David Brinkley. In 2004, the Maryland General Assembly and the governor enacted four major tax-hikes:
Taxpayer advocates should know that Senator Harris, a no-new-taxes pledge signer, stood resolutely against all these measures. Senator Brinkley, not a pledge signer, voted for all of them.
We have few enough taxpayer friends in the General Assembly. A Republican leadership defeat for Senator Harris would be a serious blow. Please call your friends among Maryland's returning Republican state senators. And don't forget our just-elected state senator and no-new-taxes pledge signer, Bryan Simonaire. Ask them to vote for Harris and speak up for Maryland taxpayers! Best Wishes. Richard Falknor Richard Falknor
